Insidious by Nature
There was no dawn today. The sky was laden with dark foreboding clouds. They pressed down out of the sky reaching for the ground below. They sent their minions down to explore all the nooks and crannies. They were small at first, just sent as a tentative exploration team. Then they came faster and harder, growing in size. They infiltrated everything. They are very insidious. First the surface is covered, then they find the cracks and squeeze their way inside. Nothing is safe from the onslaught of their tremendous might. Everyone scurries around like ants as they flee from the overwhelming pressure from above. Everything is completely inundated. No one dares to leave buildings as the onslaught presses down as hard as possible. They all peer out from windows and doors. Like little mice, they peer at the mysteries of what is happening, noses twitching at the metallic odour that lies heavily in the air. Then without warning, the sun pushes through, and the clouds break up. The onslaught has stopped abruptly in comparison to its timid beginnings. People come out from the buildings, cautiously at first then with greater urgency, scurrying around to soak up the suns eager rays. The sun quickly dries up the city. Everything is fresh and new again, the air scrubbed clean. The city breaks out of its temporary holding pattern and resumes its normal pattern once again. Head down, eyes staring straight ahead unseeing, uncaring, hurrying to another pointless meeting.
